People make history. They shape the places they live in, they create the buildings, and they are the ones around whom events happen – indeed, sometimes they are the instigators of those events.

Some people achieve fame, or infamy. Some are famous but only for a while, being forgotten by those that follow them. Others remain unknown to most people, not only to future generations but even to their own generation. But all of them make an impact – sometimes immediate, sometimes in the longer-term.

By telling their stories, we remind ourselves that history is made by people.

In recognition of this, and in keeping with the 50th anniversary of our founding, Cleveland and Teesside Local History Society will be presenting information about fifty people who have made the history of in Cleveland and Teesside.
