Charity Commission Number: 516363
Promoting interest in all aspects of local history concerning Cleveland and Teesside since 1968.
Our members carry out research into the historical, industrial, architectural, archaeological and sociological evolution of the area and its adjoining regions, and then disseminate that research through talks, written articles and other means.
We have regular talks by invited speakers on topics of interest, as well as occasional themed day schools.
We also take part in visits and tours of places of interest.
We encourage the preservation and use of historical documents, and the preservation of buildings and other material objects of historical importance.
We promote and support local history projects and work closely with local archives, libraries, museums and groups connected with archaeology, family history and industrial archaeology.
Membership of CTLHS brings with it:

There’s a name for May the fourth – Star Wars Day…. “May the Force (the fourth) be with you.” Well the force certainly was with us in Guisborough this year …
Our Society was founded in 1968 as the result of a conversation between Barry Harrison, a university lecturer’ and Tom Sowler, the Stockton historian, so naturally we are looking forward …
We are always pleased to hear from anyone interested in joining the Society, with questions about our activities, or even with questions about local history.
