Although we are still basking in the summer heatwave, there are signs that Autumn and then Winter will soon be upon us.
One of the surest signs is the start of the Society’s Winter Programme.
The first talks take place on Saturday 15 September at Middlesbrough College.
There will be two speakers. One of these is different to that previously advertised.
Firstly, we will have Christiane Kroebel talking about Whitby – but not the Whitby that perhaps most of us are familiar with. She will talk about ‘The Port of Whitby During Queen Anne’s War 1703 to 1714’.
Then Martin Peagam will talk about ‘The Workhouses of Stockton’ which attempted to deal with ‘the problem of the poor’ in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. He will explore the buildings and the people who inhabited them.
Two great topics, so make a date in your diary – Saturday 15th September from 10.45am.
